Over the past year, I’ve had the distinct pleasure of calling Mpala Research Centre my home. Living, working and learning in this spectacular landscape has provided an optimal lens through which to observe Laikipia’s ecology and develop the intellectual approaches to understand this complex system. MRC’s diverse, high caliber research community provides a marvelously stimulating environment. In addition to the diverse and talented scientific community, MRC also occasionally hosts journalists and storytellers who help in sharing this landscape with a wider audience. One of the more ambitious projects to recently take hold at the research centre is "Mpala Live!". In addition to working to communicate the science being conducted at the centre, Mpala Live! has installed a live camera feed at the hippopotamus pools on the Ewaso Nyiro river that enable viewers from across to globe to participate in observing and understanding this system. See below for one of Mpala Live's feature videos describing the unique conservation initiatives occurring in Laikipia
